CDP attorney Alice Cherry was a member of the legal team defending activists Michael Foster and Samuel Jessup in their recent trial in North Dakota, which ended in convictions after experts on climate science and civil disobedience were barred from testifying. Michael Foster was a “valve turner” who turned off the flow of tar sands through the Keystone 1 Pipeline in Pembina County, North Dakota on October 11, 2016, as part of the coordinated Shut It Down wave of actions across four states. Sam Jessup filmed Mr. Foster’s action. Ms. Cherry (pictured with Mr. Foster and North Dakota attorney Michael Hoffman) provided on-the-ground support inside and outside the courtroom.
