The Corvallis, Oregon Gazette-Times featured a piece on climate activist Leonard Higgins. The article quotes CDP’s Kelsey Skaggs on the climate necessity defense:
“If there has ever been a political problem that seems to fit within the contours of the necessity defense, climate change is it,” said Kelsey Skaggs, [Climate Defense Project’s] executive director.
“Civil disobedience is necessary in these cases because there are no alternatives available. The existing structures, the political and democratic structures we have in place, have not been able to respond effectively to climate change.”
