In the summer of 2021, the State of Minnesota arrested hundreds of Water Protectors who engaged in protests, direct actions, religious ceremonies, and treaty camps during the Line 3 pipeline construction. In April, one such Water Protector, represented by CDP staff attorney Claire Glenn, went to trial in Pennington County on a misdemeanor obstruction charge arising out of their presence at an Anishinaabe religious ceremony outside of a construction site. After two days of trial, the jury returned a unanimous verdict of Not Guilty.
Congratulations to Claire and her client!
