For media inquiries, referrals to other lawyers, and general questions, please contact us via email.

Do you need a lawyer? CDP is always open to new clients. However, our capacity fluctuates, and we reserve the right to accept or decline any case for any reason. To facilitate our review, we encourage you to complete the form below.

Are we a good fit? We evaluate each inquiry individually; there are no bright lines. However, we prioritize the following kinds of cases and clients:

  • people in serious need who would otherwise lack access to a lawyer;
  • whether climate-related or not, cases with a nexus to anti-racism, decolonization, disability justice, or queer liberation;
  • people who are directly impacted, or accountable to those directly impacted.

We are admitted to practice in the following U.S. states: Colorado, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, and Washington State. If you have a pending legal matter in another state, we may be willing to apply to represent you as “pro hac vice” counsel, subject to the local court’s approval.

Do you have a public defender? If you are facing criminal charges, we encourage you to consider a public defender or other court-appointed lawyer. While the quality of public defense varies, these lawyers can be excellent and tend to have strong expertise in their local court systems. Nonetheless, public defenders are often over-burdened and may not have the resources your case requires. If you have a public defender or court-appointed lawyer, we will still consider taking your case.

Are you looking for resources? For more information about movement-oriented defense, how the legal process works, and navigating relationships with lawyers, see this guide from the Tilted Scales Collective. For a discussion of helpful considerations when deciding whether to accept a plea offer or go to trial, see this letter co-written by Victoria Drain, Timothy Cominghay, and CDP’s Kira Kelley.

Ready to get in touch? To facilitate our review, we encourage you to complete the form below (we treat everything as confidential, but please do not include sensitive information at this stage).
